Passport Information

ATTENTION
Air Travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada will be required to have a passport to enter or re-enter the United States. This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States by air. As of this date, sea passengers' requirements are due to change in 2008. However, it is important to note some Cruise Lines are requiring a valid passport for travel. If you are unsure of the necessary documentation, please don't hesitate to ask. The Cruise Line will deny boarding to those passengers without the required documentation and no refund will be provided. Your passport must have an expiration date that meets or exceeds 6 months post return to the US.
This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.
It is especially important to note 2 incidents that this can directly influence. If you are taking a cruise to Alaska or Europe, and you are flying to a departing port outside of the US, you must have a passport. In additon, if your cruise leaves from the US but it's final destination is in a foreign port and you will be flying home, you must have a passport. One other example: if you became stranded or became ill in a foreign port of call and either needed to fly home, needed to be emergency medivaced back to the states, or you needed to take a plane to meet the ship in the next port, you MUST have a passport in order for this to happen. Trust me, you don't want to be thrust into a situation such as this.
It is therefore the suggestion of Cruise Planners that you get a valid passport prior to your sailing. If you need expedited service, we have affiliations with companies that can get your request processed faster for an additional fee. We recieve no compensation from the processing company for doing this, we only provide this as an option for last minute travelers. Please ask us for details.
Passport Processing Times Have Increased Due to High Volume. For more information see Passport Application Processing Times.
The Passport Services Office provides information and services to American citizens about how to obtain, replace or change a passport.
A passport is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies the identity and nationality of the bearer. A valid U.S. passport is required to enter and leave most foreign countries. Only the U.S. Department of State has the authority to grant, issue or verify United States passports.
New Application for a U.S. Passport
To obtain a passport for the first time, you need to go in person to one of over 8,000 passport acceptance facilities located throughout the United States with two photographs of yourself, proof of U.S. citizenship, and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license.
Acceptance facilities include many Federal, state and probate courts, post offices, some public libraries and a number of county and municipal offices. There are also 13 regional passport agencies, and 1 Gateway City Agency, which serve customers who are traveling within 2 weeks (14 days), or who need foreign visas for travel. Appointments are required in such cases.
You’ll need to apply in person if you are applying for a U.S. passport for the first time: if your expired U.S. passport is not in your possession; if your previous U.S. passport has expired and was issued more than 15 years ago; if your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16; or if your currently valid U.S. passport has been lost or stolen.
